Off We Jolly Well Go

Well the Premiership season finally got underway with a great 4-3 win away at the Arsenal, putting even more pressure on the charismatic Mr Wenger and his own inability to buy top class and potentially game changing players – sounds familiar doesn’t it?

Players have moved on who should have moved on like the erratic Martin Skrtel and the ageing Toure and the improving under Klopp e.g Joe Allen, who went in my opinion too soon and should have been given more time to develop as a central midfielder this season.

We have brought in Klavan who will develop into a good central defender alongside Lovren & Sakho with his attitude and injury problems not playing a major part this season for us. Well, not in the league anyway. But spare a thought for the extremely unlucky Karius who hopefully will be back soon. Mane at £34 million looks a good buy when you consider we paid £30 million for Benteke who is just biding his time at our club, and inevitably we are going to have to take a loss on the price we paid for him, but that’s football for you.

Matip on a free looks another great purchase and eagle eyed Klopp knows when he’s onto a good thing, but his inability to buy a quality left back for the impetuous Alberto Moreno has left us weak in that position, having a clone of the underrated Clyne would solve that problem. But as a club going forward using Milner as cover at left back is not the solution to that particular problem.

Couthino is an exceptional talent with him and Mane together they will terrorise defences this season but the jury is still out on Adam Lalanna and Lucas at some stage will be moving on but Firmino has a big part to play this season but needs to up his consistency levels as do a the team as a whole Henderson and Milner are not game changing players but good players in their own individual way.

Henderson has so much potential we just haven’t seen it yet and to be fair he has a lot to live up as Steven Gerrard’s boots are still just that little bit too big for him, while Wijnaldum is still trying to find his feet at Anfield as is Grujic but these are good squad players who we need. Emre Can is someone else who needs to impress Klopp this season and often has in and out performances. Origi will score goals if played enough and that also goes for Danny Ings who needs a run of matches too.

I will pass on Mario Balotelli as l can’t see him in a red shirt again and am surprised he’s actually still a part of the club. Last but not least the continuing saga that follows around the incredibly talented and injury ravaged Daniel Sturridge: what is the solution to this situation? Do we play him not fully fit? Do we not play him until he’s 100% fit?

Which could be never, last season there was talk of him leaving, is he committed to Liverpool? Will the rumours surface again about him being unsettled at Anfield? Only he knows the answers to those questions, when fit he’s amazing but when out injured constantly is he worth keeping?

We have a decent squad now and we need to move forward – with no Europe we can pick up one ore two trophies this season. Good luck to all.
