Smith Set To Leave Liverpool

Young Australian left back Brad Smith looks set to be the next player to leave Liverpool this summer. Liverpool are believed to have agreed a £6 million deal with Bournemouth this weekend.

Smith, who is currently with the team on their pre season tour of America is expected to fly back to the UK in the coming days to finalize the deal.

Smith played 11 times last season for Liverpool, mainly in cup competitions and did enough to show some fans that maybe he was a viable option to Alberto Moreno at left back this season. The news of a transfer away from the club has surprised some fans especially with Smith only signing a new contract in the last year. Smith scored his only goal for the reds their win over Exeter City in last seasons FA Cup.

Smith made his debut for Liverpool in a 2-1 loss to Chelsea on the 29th Decemeber 2013. The following year he was loaned out to Swindon Town, but after a contract dispute he was called back from Swindon having played justv10 games in League One.

Last season aswell as scoring his first senior goal against Exeter, Smith also gave an assist to Divock Origi as he scored his hattrick in a 6-1 victory over Southampton. Smith had his second assist of the season in the replay against Exeter in the FA Cup when his pass was slotted in to the back of Exeters net by Joe Allen. In total Smith made 11 appearances for Liverpool, scoring the one goal and having 2 assists. I for one will be disappointed to see the young Australian leave the club, I felt with a full pre season under his belt with Jürgen Klopp he has the ability to make the left back position his own for years to come. Hopefully he gets to show at Bournmouth what he can do and be back wearing the red of Liverpool in a few years time.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has been in the market for a new left-back all summer and will know up his pursuit of a replacement to compete with Alberto Moreno for a starting spot. As with the Sergi Canos and Jordan Ibe deals, Liverpool have inserted a buy back clause in the deal for Smith.
