Born to a Cameroonian father and German mother, Joel Matip is truly an exquisite cross breed whom a lot will be expected from at the redside of Merseyside. He is multi-talented and very promising defender. The 24-year Cameroonian old will probably turn out to be the most prospectively economic signing for Liverpool this summer.
Make no mistake concerning this free transfer, because Matip has been very instrumental in the back line of Bundesliga giants, Schalke 04 for the past number of years and will be terribly missed by his old employers. He joined Liverpool, officially on the 1st of July 2016 following a prior pre-contract agreement with the English and European power house on the 15th of February this year. He will wear the number 32 kit number.
Matip joins Liverpool with an impressive record of 17 goals in 194 appearances in the first team of his former club with 3 goals and 3 assists last season. He featured in his first Livrpool game ever in a friendly against Tranmere last Friday night where his first touch was an infringement on his opposite number in less than a minute after kick off. Throughout the game though, he showed his tenacity by winning aerial duels and great command on the ball.
Matip adds a lot to the ever growing strength of the Reds’ back line with his impeccable aerial ability and occasional knack for goalscoring and dribbling. He will be a great option for Jürgen Klopp’s army alongside Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren.
Welcome to Anfield Matip
