Liverpool have made an approach to sign Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian attacker Alex Teixeira.
Liverpool lodged a £24.5m bid on Thursday morning for the 26 year-old. However, the Ukrainian club value Teixeira, who has also been linked with Chelsea, at £30m. Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is looking to boost his striking options, with Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge all injured.
I’ve heard Klopp is very keen on Teixeira and the board are ready to back him financially. Klopp has made the Brazilian midfielder his top priority this January.
Liverpool have only scored 25 goals in 22 Premier League games this season.
Shakhtar, who are at a winter training camp in Florida, value Teixeira highly. The forward has scored 22 goals in 15 league games and four goals in 10 Champions League appearances this season.
Ian Ayre flew to Florida on Tuesday evening to try and complete the deal. Liverpool are confident of getting a deal done with Teixeira in the next few days.
It is understood Teixeira would command around £45,000-a-week.
Talks are on-going, but my understanding is that Liverpool will push hard to try and sign the highly-rated forward this January.
