Liverpool are interested in defender, Joel Matip. The Schalke player is available on a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool want to start negotiations with Matip from January first and the club are in pole position to agree a pre-contract agreement with Matip, however the Cameroon international can only join Liverpool when his Schalke contract expires in the summer.
Matip is twenty four years old, he is a versatile defender, and can also play defensive midfield, but his main position is centre-back.
Matip would be an excellent signing for the Reds. Liverpool need to strengthen in the centre-back position. With Kolo Toure expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, Klopp will be looking to add to his defence, and Joel Matip would be a clever signing on a free transfer.
He would also give added competition to Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho in the centre of defence.
Regarding injury news: According to reports, Martin Skrtel is set to be ruled out for 3 months due to a hamstring injury he picked up on the weekend against Watford. Dejan Lovren is close to returning from his knee injury, and could feature against Leicester on Boxing Day.
