Marko Grujic has agreed a five-year contract with Liverpool.
The highly rated midfielder is expected to fly to Merseyside this week to undergo his medical. Grujic, nineteen, is a midfielder currently at Red Star Belgrade. He has played thirty two times, scoring five goals, and has represented Serbia at every international level bar the main national squad.
Marko Grujic will cost Liverpool seven million euros (five million pounds). Liverpool will receive one million euros back as a loan fee after agreeing to let him remain at Red Star Belgrade until the end of the season. The Serbian international was very close to signing with Italian side, Inter Milan. However, Jürgen Klopp spoke with Grujic personally and sounded out how much he wanted him at Anfield.
Klopp was alerted to Grujic’s ability and potential by his assistant manager Zeljko Buvac, and clearly took his trusty advice on the player. Grujic is a box-to-box midfielder, who is very physical for his age. He can be compared to Emre Can in our current squad.
Liverpool are also hoping to strike a pre-contract agreement in January with the Schalke defender Joël Matip, who is out of contract with the Bundesliga club next summer.
